March 16, 2016
It is with much sadness that we inform you that Divine Mercy Regional School will not be opening as was planned for the 2016-17 school year. Most importantly, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your support of this regional school. The enrollment of your children has made known to us your deep level of commitment to the cooperative effort between our parishes. For this, we offer you our sincerest thanks.
While tremendous efforts to establish the regional school were made by many, and significant resources were put forth by all our parishes, Divine Mercy Regional School fell short of an enrollment commitment that would have made the school financially possible. As our multi-parish cooperation in the school would have been necessary for funding, plans to close St. Raphael, St. Damian and St. Genevieve schools at the end of the current school year will proceed.
We understand this development requires you to further discern where you might enroll your children for the 2016-17 school year. We are blessed and encouraged that, within a reasonable driving radius of our St. Raphael campus and your homes, there are quality options for your children to continue a Christ-centered education in Catholic schools. We will be informing you of open house and tour availabilities for these schools. You also may obtain information on nearby schools by visiting the office of your present school.
While the necessity of today’s announcement is regrettable, it is perhaps providential that we hear this news as we head into Holy Week. As disciples of Jesus, the goal of all our actions is to bring others, and certainly to bring our children, to Christ. This is why we have Catholic schools. As you reflect in the coming week on the Passion of Our Blessed Lord, may the reality of His sacrifice and the glory of His Resurrection give you solace and inspiration as a parent.
Uniting our prayers with your own at this most sacred time, we remain,
Sincerely yours in Christ,
The Most Reverend Francis Reiss, St. Theodore of Canterbury
Fr. Simeon Iber, St Thomas the Apostle
Fr. Howard Vogan, St. Genevieve- St. Maurice
